The final course 2025 of DTSKF on December 6–7, 2025, in Berlin.

It was to be a very special course, and so it proved. The DTSKF (ITKF-Germany) invited Sensei Harri Hämäläinen 8th Dan from Helsinki, Finland, to Berlin for the end-of-year course. Sensei Michael Bock established the contacts and there was a lively exchange of emails in the run-up to the course. The aim was not only to enrich the knowledge of the DTSKF, but also to grow the ITKF family.

“… such good karate was 40 years ago.”

Our training sessions began on Saturday, December 6, 2025. More than 200 students attended the course and were divided into groups. However, these groups had to be divided again in order to maintain quality. Sensei Hämäläinen was overwhelmed by the discipline and respect shown to him. All trainers can take pride in this. He said that the last time he had seen such good karate was 40 years ago, which was a very big compliment.

In addition to Finland (represented by Sensei Harri Hämäläinen), there were representatives from Bulgaria (Anton Staykov), Germany (Kurt Fischer-Weiherig), and the Order: Federation of Autonomous Priories of the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, represented by Michael Bock as Deputy Minister of Sport and Chief Instructor of the DTSKF.

From Germany, four clubs from Berlin and Brandenburg belonging to the Association for Traditional Karate. Sensei Hämäläinen taught the basic training to the students in a very authentic and friendly manner and was repeatedly impressed by their discipline and respect.

The second day of training was similar to the first, with Sensei Harri focusing on footwork, foot placement, and quick, correct weight transfer to reach the target quickly. The course ended to loud applause, and that was just the beginning of a long friendship.

MSAC – Military Sports All-Round Competitions, World Championships in Wrocław, Poland – November 14–16, 2025

From November 14 to 16, 2025, Wrocław hosted a world championship of a different kind. Why? It was the MSAC (Military Sports All-Round Competitions) World Championships. After all, 400 athletes from 18 nations met in Wrocław on behalf of Kharkiv (Ukraine). That’s quite impressive. As the war in Ukraine is still ongoing, this championship was held in Wrocław again. I think this is the third year in a row. It’s only a 3-4 hour drive for us, so it’s quite feasible.

I did not intend to compete as a German and therefore not for DTSKF, as I did not have the DTSKF mandate. I also have no time for German war rhetoric, so I competed for the Association for International Friendship and/or for the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta. Sir Georg Popper, as Prime Minister, found the idea very flattering, and Winni (Winfried Raithel) from the KMFAP also wanted to jump on the bandwagon and travel there with some athletes from Hamburg and Frankfurt am Main. Athletes from the DTSKF from the SGF and VTKB clubs competed under their home clubs. I myself see it as a small test to see if I can be successful under pressure.

President Volodymyr Levin asked me to support his championship. Since he supported us at the 2025 championship in Berlin, I gave him my word. The German team was mixed.

I was able to take first place in kata (forms) and in a practical application of self-defense. This also shows that self-defense must work under tension and pressure. The result reassured me.

The course is open to all ages and backgrounds. Participants learn simple striking and lever techniques and apply this knowledge to defend themselves against knife attacks and other assaults. It is aimed at everyone: older people, women, but also rescue workers and medical personnel who want to learn self-defense, as well as anyone who is simply afraid of becoming a victim of crime.

Time and again, interested parties ask for guidance on how to act confidently in self-defense situations. They simply want to feel more secure so that they can react quickly and correctly to certain conditions and circumstances. Michael Bock, who is also well versed in Krav Maga and other self-defense arts, also teaches how to “protect,” “escort,” and transport perpetrators. The protection of the “elderly” and the “young” is particularly close to his heart. We hear about attacks time and time again. He provides a little more security, because the police cannot be everywhere. As a former police officer, he knows this from his active service.
