The DTSKF Honbu Dojo in Berlin – Headquarter of Traditional Karate in Germany
The Honbu Dojo is the central dojo of the DTSKF and the technical representative of the International Traditional Karate Federation (ITKF) and the Hidetaka Nishiyama Karate Institute (HNKI) in Germany. As the Honbu Dojo, it is the place where the organization’s technical lineage is anchored—grounded in Sensei Nishiyama’s teachings and tradition and the spirit of Budo.
The Hidetaka Nishiyama Karate Institut (HNKI)
The DTSKF’s Honbu Dojo follows the training objectives and clear guidelines of Sensei Hidetaka Nishiyama. Within the ITKF, he developed his own precise style to preserve his path and experiences. With the HNKI, he established an institution that safeguards and carries forward the purity of his Shotokan style.
The Honbu Dojo differs from ordinary schools through its consistent preservation of tradition. Here, karate is not modernized but practiced in its original form—calm, clear, technical, and with the spirit of Budo.
Core Tasks and Content of the Honbu Dojo
Origins and Standards
The Honbu Dojo is the core of the DTSKF in terms of content. It is the source of the technical lineage that provides guidance to all affiliated dojos. Maintaining high quality is not merely an aspiration but a responsibility.
Precision
Fundamental techniques (Kihon), traditional forms (Kata), and sparring (Kumite) are taught in their authentic form. Strength, character, and respect form the foundation of every session. Technique arises from structure, breathing, timing, and inner clarity.
Direct Lineage
The teachings of Sensei Nishiyama and his most important masters (Shihan) are passed down directly here. Technical guidance follows a direct lineage—grounded in experience and a commitment to tradition.
Philosophy and Spirit—Budo
In addition to physical training, mental attitude is of central importance: Bushido, Zazen, breathing exercises, presence, and calmness. Here, Budo is not merely a concept, but a lived practice. The ITKF sums it up in one sentence: Budo for Life—karate as a lifelong path.
Administrative Headquarters
The Honbu Dojo is the organizational hub of the DTSKF: dan examinations, instructor training, national and international seminars, and the training of future instructors are all coordinated here. It is a place of learning, responsibility, and passing on the tradition.
The Karateka at the Honbu Dojo
Currently, 20 karateka between 1st and 8th dan are registered. Another 10 candidates are preparing for their dan examinations. The atmosphere is calm, focused, and characterized by people who practice karate seriously and carry on the tradition.
